
The Electoral Race of 1868
- Grant ran as a Republican with his vice president being Schuyler Colfax (the at the time speaker of the house) he ran against democratic candidate Horatio Seymour with his vice president candidate Francis Blair, Jr.
- Certain states were not allowed to vote due being unreconstructed or were still considered United States territories.
- Grant won the popular vote with 3,013,650
(52.7%) - Grant was selected unanimously as the republican candidate due to his popularity after being the commander of the union force during the civil war
- His campaign slogan was “Let us Have Peace” and he supported policy like reconstruction, suffrage for all men, and immigration to name a few.

The Electoral Race of 1872
- Grant ran as the incumbent president but Schuyler Colfax did not run as the vice president being replaced by Henry Wilson as they face multiple party’s but the main opponents were democrat candidate Horace Greeley and his running mate Benjamin Brown.
- Grant won the popular vote of 3,598,468
(55.6%) - The race is also included the first ever female candidate Victoria Woodhull with her running mate Fredrick Douglass
- Grant ran the same slogan and policies that he did in the previous election of 1868.
